The term “Dough-Boy” refers to the American Expeditionary Force troops who came over in 1918 to assist the Entente forces in the defeat of the Triple Alliance. The reason they were called this is because of the shape of the buttons on their uniforms. The buttons, according to the European forces looked like fresh baked loaves of bread. The exhaustd Europeans also said theat the American troops looked big and healthy.
