Count Manfred von Richthofen , also known as “The Red Baron” was an authentic Baron. Bored with the everyday issues of life, and yearning for excitement, Richthofen decided to learn to fly airplanes. He quickly caught on and soon was offered a spot as a member of a group of flyers termed “The Flying Circus.” They were so called because of their antics in the air as well as the fact that they flew brightly colored bi-planes. During World War One, The Red Baron, known so because of his bright red plane would become one of the greatest aces of the war. He would be shot down over France by an unknown Infantry soldier on 21 April 1918. Because of his notoriety, he was given full military honors by the British.
