Explosive Ordinance

Much of the damage done during the war was due to the use of explosive ordinance, namely the artillery shells. These varied in size and power depending on whether it was a mortar which could penetrate soil up to three feet but had minimal long range ability. Most of the shells fired did not explode on impact and to this day, farmers in the regions where fighting occurred still find these shells. The reason for this is because most countries had only a small stock pile of weapons and none of the combatants on either side believed this would be a long war.
