Shell Shock was the term used for the disorder afflicted on many soldiers in the front whose nerves became “broken” due to the constant sound and ground shock of the explosive ordinances coming in or going out. There was a range of symptoms from a mild twitching in the face or arms to complete bodily spasms. Many soldiers only needed time away from the front to get better, others never recovered. A form of it today is termed “Post- Traumatic Stress Disorder.”
